Coln Clearances is a Cheltenham-based, family-run business that treats every home like it matters, because it does. What began as one man with a van has grown into the trusted first call for families across the Cotswolds facing a bereavement, a downsize or a move.
Ian Barnfield founded Coln Clearances in 2014 after years working in the auction trade. He'd watched families sink into weeks of stress trying to clear a parent's home themselves, or hire someone who treated the job as just another rubbish run.
The idea was simple. Bring auction-house knowledge to the doorstep, treat every property with respect, and let the resale value of good items reduce the family's bill. That became the cashback scheme, and it's still our favourite thing to explain to a new customer.
Today, we're a small, tightly run team based at Star Lodge in Montpellier. Ian is on almost every clearance himself. Jessica coordinates bookings and quotes. And every family gets our full attention, whether it's a two-bed flat in Prestbury or a three-storey estate in Cirencester.
Every family we meet is going through something. We take our time, we listen, and we check every room for what matters before anything moves.
Ninety percent of what we take is recycled, reused or donated. Mattresses go to specialist recyclers, not landfill. It's not a marketing line, it's how we run every job.
